In a small house in the Nong Phueng community of Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand, Thong lives with his wife and their two sons.
Like many parents, Thong wants the best for his children. He dreams of seeing them stay in school, grow up healthy, and have opportunities for a brighter future. But providing for his family has not always been easy.
Thong works as a general laborer, taking on whatever jobs are available. Some days bring work, while other days bring uncertainty. His wife works as a housekeeper, and together they do everything they can to provide for their children. Yet with rising household expenses and education costs, making ends meet often feels like a constant challenge.
Despite the difficulties, the family has never stopped working hard. Their home may be small, but it is filled with love, determination, and a strong commitment to one another.
A Family That Faces Challenges Together
After school, the sons help their parents with daily chores and household responsibilities. Everyone in the family contributes in whatever way they can.
Although they work hard, there were times when the future felt uncertain. Unexpected expenses would quickly create financial pressure, and finding ways to save for their children's future seemed almost impossible.
Like many hardworking families, they did not need someone to solve all their problems. They simply needed an opportunity to build something of their own.
An Opportunity Arrives
That opportunity came through the Building Strong Families (BSF) Program. Because the family already had experience raising chickens and owned a small flock of five birds, they were well positioned to expand their poultry project. BSF partnered with them by providing 50 chickens and 10 bags of feed, while the family contributed their own resources and labor to prepare the coop and care for the growing flock.
Soon, caring for the hens became part of everyday life. The family worked together to feed the chickens, maintain the coop, and ensure the flock remained healthy.
What began as a small livelihood project soon became a shared family effort and a source of growing hope.
Watching Hope Grow
Together, they feed the hens, maintain the coop, and collect eggs each day. Their commitment has paid off. Today, the flock produces around 30–40 eggs daily, creating an additional source of income that helps cover household expenses and support their children's education.
“Before, I worried every day about providing for my family. Now, raising laying hens has given us new opportunities. We can earn extra income, support our children, and continue building a better life together. We are very grateful for the support and will keep working hard.” — Thong

For Thong's family, the chickens represent more than a source of income. They represent opportunity, stability, and the confidence to plan ahead. Through their hard work and the support of BSF and our generous partners, this family is creating a stronger future—one egg at a time.
BSF is a partner for project J1079N with Australian NGO, Global Development Group (ABN 57 102 400 993). Donations to BSF through Global Development Group are tax deductible in Australia, NZ, and the USA.
